Committed to combating gender based violence against women, the City of Vienna, the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) and the World Health Organisation Regional Office for Europe (WHO Europe) have decided to organise the joint conference "Eliminating violence against women", focusing on intersectoral approaches and actions in Vienna on 25 - 26 November 2013. The conference will gather about 200 invited participants from 53 European countries: representatives from ministeries of gender equality, social issues and ministeries of health, furthermore experts of the EU, regional agencies and civil society.
The conference will facilitate the exchange of ideas, practices and experiences on data collection, policy action, prevention strategies and the role of multiple sectors with a view to improve intersectoral action towards the elimination of violence against women. This is a step of WHO and EIGE to ensure a better use of existing resources and avoid duplications, particuliarly, with a view to developing common definitions and indicators which can be used within the EU and beyond.
